Application Notes
Determination of Pharmaceuticals by Capillary HPLC-MS/MS
This application note demonstrates the use of a compact portable capillary liquid chromatograph, the Axcend Focus LC, coupled to an Agilent Ultivo triple quadrupole mass spectrometer for quantitative analysis of pharmaceutical drugs in model aqueous samples.
Determination of Triazine Herbicides in Aqueous Samples by Capillary HPLC-MS/MS
The compact Axcend Focus LC was coupled to a relatively small footprint Agilent Ultivo triple quadrupole mass spectrometer for the analysis of triazine pesticides in aqueous samples. Components of a standard test mixture of seven triazine herbicides (alachlor, atrazine, cyanazine, metolachlor, metribuzin, prometryne, and simazine) were separated by HPLC on a C18 capillary column and quantified using multiple reaction monitoring mass spectrometry.
Determination of Opioids by Capillary HPLC-MS/MS
This application note demonstrates the use of the compact Axcend Focus LC capillary chromatograph coupled to an Agilent Ultivo triple quadrupole mass spectrometer for quantitative analysis of opioids in model aqueous samples.
Analysis of Biocides
Biocides are widely used to suppress undesired organisms such as insects, rodents, bacteria, and fungi. Since biocides can be toxic to humans and unintended animals besides the target organism(s), they must be applied at strictly controlled concentrations.
MDA QUANTIFICATION IN JET FUEL
Detect the presence and specific concentration of Metal Deactivator Additive (MDA) in an aviation turbine fuel sample using the portable analyzer.
POINT-OF-CARE MONITORING FOR DRUGS OF ABUSE
The Axcend Focus LC is well suited for point-of-care Drugs of Abuse testing. Replacing immunoassays with more specific portable LC is straightforward and easy. The data handling capabilities of the AFLC allows for clear reporting of each Drug of Abuse. The self-contained design of the AFLC makes it safe to use at the point-of-need.
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY METHOD FOR THE ANALYSIS OF CAFFEINE AND BENZOIC ACID IN SOFT DRINKS
A simple analysis of caffeine and benzoic acid in soft drinks using the compact Axcend Focus LC® is demonstrated. Linear regression of the calibration data gave R2 values of 0.9993 and 0.9998 for caffeine and benzoic acid, respectively. Analysis of a commercial soft drink gave 228 ppm caffeine (RSD 1.1%) and 184 ppm benzoic acid (RSD 1.8%). Solvent usage was estimated to be approximately 28 μL per analysis.
TRACE LEVELS OF BTEX IN WATER USING HAND-PORTABLE HPLC
This brief application note demonstrates the use of hand-portable capillary HPLC by the Axcend Focus LC® for BTEX compounds in water––specifically, with a 5 μL external injection loop and UV-absorption detection at 255 nm.
INTACT PROTEIN ANALYSIS BY RPLC USING HAND-PORTABLE HPLC
This brief application note demonstrates the use of hand-portable capillary HPLC by the Axcend Focus LC® for intact protein analysis. Specifically, the separation of five test proteins in the range of 5.8 to 45 kDa is shown using reversed phase (RP) conditions. Other protein samples can be analyzed using the Axcend Focus LC® merely by adapting established conventional high performance LC methods to the capillary column format. 12-HOUR DISSOLUTION OF EXTRA STRENGTH EXCEDRIN® BRAND ANALGESIC IN 200mL OF MEDIA WITH THE AXCEND LC®
The Axcend Focus LC® High-Performance Liquid Chromatography system (HPLC) delivers repeatable analyses of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) dissolution. In this test, an Extra Strength Excedrin® analgesic tablet was dissolved, without stirring, in a beaker containing 200 mL of media [97% water; 3% acetonitrile (ACN); and <0.1% trifluroacetic acid (TFA)].
DETERMINATION OF 5 HEMP-BASED CANNABINOIDS & 12 STANDARD CANNABINOIDS BY HAND-PORTABLE HPLC
This application note demonstrates the ability of the Axcend Focus LC® portable HPLC to detect and separate 5 principal cannabinoids present in 50 mg of a hemp-variant of cannabis flowers (dry weight) and 12 additional cannbinoids present in a Restek standard. Run-times for both analyses of ~18 minutes with a 50:50 mixture of ACN 0.3 M NH4Ac buffer pH 4.6 (Mobile Phase A) and MeOH 50% ACN (Mobile Phase B).
TWO METHODS FOR QUICK ANALYSIS OF POLYCYCLIC AROMATIC HYDROCARBONS (PAHs) USING AXCEND FOCUS LC®
The Axcend Focus LC® was used to separate polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in ~12 and ~15 minutes, respectively, with separate methods on short (10 cm x 150 µm i.d.) capillary columns packed with 1.7 µm monomeric and 3.0 diameter polymeric C18 particles.
FIVE PRINCIPAL CANNABINOIDS SEPARATED AND DETECTED IN NINE MINUTES USING THE AXCEND FOCUS LC®
Five cannabinoids were separated and detected in ~nine minutes using the Axcend Focus LC® High-Performance Liquid Chromatography system (HPLC): Cannabidiolic Acid, Cannabidiol, Cannabinol, Delta(9)-Tetrahydrocannabinol, and Delta(9)-Tetrahydrocannabinolic Acid.
